Adventures of Philip Marlowe

OTR Mysteries: The Adventures of Philip Marlowe

Gerald Mohr as Marlowe

The Adventures of Philip Marlowe was first heard on radio as a 1947 summer replacement show with Van Heflin in the title role. Two years later Gerald Mohr was introduced as Marlowe in a regular 30 minute weekly series.

Philip Marlowe was the creation of Raymond Chandler in his 1939 novel The Big Sleep. The hard-boiled and tough talking private detective then appeared in a number of subsequent books by Chandler.

The radio series ran on Saturday nights on CBS from September, 1948 to September, 1951. It is said that Chandler favored Gerald Mohr over all other actors who played Marlowe.

Give a listen to this really fun radio noir series and you will understand why.
