Suspense
Suspense
Suspense normally told stories of average people who find themselves in life-or-death situations. Many of the stories have reached cult status.
For instance, Sorry, Wrong Number involves an invalid woman who, while listening to a crossed telephone connection, hears two men planning a woman's murder. To make matters worse, her husband is overdue and the servants have the night off -- leaving her all alone in her Manhattan apartment.
There are many other classics, too. The House in Cypress Canyon tells the story of a young couple discovering something sinister and malevolent living in the closet of their new home.
Then there is The Hitchhiker, the story of a man driving across country who keeps passing the same ominous hitchhiker again and again. As a listener you become unsettled pondering what foreboding the hitchhiker represents to the man driving the car.
Suspense frequently featured top Hollywood actors. Stars like Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Olivia De Havilland, Kirk Douglas, Judy Garland, Cary Grant, Susan Hayward, Alan Ladd, Burt Lancaster, Myrna Loy, Gregory Peck, and Jimmy Stewart -- just to name a few.
So hold on to your hats as you listen to tales well calculated to keep you in suspense!
