OTR Comedies - The Great Gildersleeve

The Great Gildersleeve  -   Gildy Plays Cyrano

In a flashback episode, Gildersleeve is doing volunteer work for the Summerfield Community Theater.  When the company decides to do a production of Cyrano de Bergerac, Throckmorton is asked to perform the title role.

Gildy is excited about the prospect of playing the lead -- but has second thoughts when he learns Cyrano is about a soldier who feels unrequited love. Because Cyrano believes his huge nose makes him unattractive, he is afraid to express his feelings to the one woman he truly loves, the lovely Roxanne.

Add backstage and opening night jitters and it makes for a fun story.

Featuring: Harold Peary, Louise Erickson, Bea Benaderet, Walter Tetley, Richard Legrand, Floyd Munson, Earle Ross

Original Broadcast Date:  June 2, 1946 on NBC
