Suspense - One Hundred in the Dark
A group of gentlemen in a New York writers club have just sat down for their after-dinner coffee. They are discussing the evolution of stories and it is brought up how, due to the many different human emotions, thousands of stories can be generated from just a few possible scenarios.
As their discussion continues, one of them brings up the story of the "rare coin and the visitor at club." That leads to a somewhat similar story -- the story of Rita Kildare.
Rita Kildare was a hostess known for her dinner parties. One evening at a gathering her very expensive sapphire ring was stolen. Everyone became nervous: Everyone was simultaneously suspicious and a suspect. As the story develops, the very clever way Rita got the ring back is revealed.
